Fruit of The Spirit Wheel
The Fruit of the Spirit Wheel: A Transformational Tool
I shared the story behind this wheel at a beautiful women’s event this past weekend: The Wholehearted Conference hosted by The Wave Church. To the incredible women who were there (and anyone else who might find this helpful), this post is for you.
I was out on a morning walk a few weeks ago, listening to Brilliant Perspectives, a podcast by one of my favourite teachers, Graham Cooke, when something he said stopped me in my tracks. He suggested that the fruits of the Holy Spirit, as listed in Galatians 5:22, could be understood as the emotions of God. I froze mid-step. How utterly stunning, I thought. It made total sense.
Love, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. These are not just nice ideas. They are expressions of God’s very nature.
Having spent years working with the Feeling Wheel in my journaling practice, I immediately imagined a similar tool. One that paired the Fruit of the Spirit with their opposites... like what life might feel like when we’re operating in the flesh rather than in the Spirit and vice versa. (You can read more about the original Feeling Wheel here…)
As soon as I got home, I sketched out the idea in my journal. But something didn’t sit right. I kept wanting to place Love at the centre. So I did. And that changed everything. Because Love is where we begin and end. God’s love, expressed through Jesus, becomes the centre of our identity. We are no longer orphans, but children. No longer slaves, but free. “The old has gone, the new is here” (2 Corinthians 5).
I worked with Tammy from Little Bird Design Studio to bring this vision to life, and I hope it serves you as much as it’s serving me.
This wheel is a tool for transformation: an invitation to slow down and become aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence. To stop, ask for God’s thoughts, and begin to see your inner world through His eyes. We’re not aiming for perfection or performance here. This is about living from the inside out... dependent, surrendered, and Spirit-led.
God is not after behaviour modification. He’s after transformation. This is how we grow up in Him.
The wheel helps us name what’s happening in our hearts, and then invite the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do. It’s a daily invitation to let go of the old, because the new has come. There is a better way. Whoop!
PS: What is The Divine Exchange?
The Divine Exchange is not a once-off event. It’s a daily invitation.
Jesus took what was broken in us and gave us what is whole in Him. It’s not just a transaction: it’s a transformation. It changes how we see God, how we see ourselves, and how we treat others. We don’t earn this. We receive it. We lean into it. We live from it. Trusting that what Jesus did is enough. And we let the Holy Spirit shape us from the inside out.
This isn’t natural. It’s supernatural. But it shows up in super real, everyday ways. ;)
Using the Wheel: Journal Prompts
Here are some prompts to guide you as you use the Fruit of the Spirit Wheel:
What’s going on inside of me right now?
Do I relate to any of the words on the outside layer of the wheel?
What thoughts are attached to those feelings?
What beliefs are attached to those thoughts?
What is the opposite of what I’m feeling, and how might God be offering me that instead?
Can I be vulnerable in the mess and hand it over to Him?
Can I depend on the Holy Spirit here, leaning into His comfort and help?
What do I sense the Spirit growing in the garden of my heart as a result of this exchange?
Imagine: what might it look like in time when you feel completely different to how you began this exercise? Write that vision!
Please feel free to download the wheel and use it. I’d love your feedback. It’s new and it’s a work in progress - just like me. 😉
Much love,
Ant
